My instant pick me up!

"A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girls best friend.."

I love love love old classic hollywood films! I adore every single element of them; the clothes, the make up and hair, the actresses and actors, the era and the way life seemed so much better then. I find they are the perfect way to brighten up a rainy day or a boring Sunday afternoon!

Seeing so many beautiful women who are elegant and classy is truly inspiring, but also quite upsetting when I think about the way some women present themselves in society now. Whatever happened to women dressing with class? I always find myself pondering how we have gone from full length dresses with hats and petticoats to too much fake tan and clothes that barely cover anything! (I see girls under 16 going out in public like this). And it's not just the way women were, it's as if men were a different species back then! (I know that it is only reflected in film and that it doesn't mean men were different in real life back then but the principle still applies) Whatever happened to men acting like real gentlemen and dressing nicely? I say we should all start making more of an effort with the way we behave and look in society! (this doesn't apply to all of us, I've also admired many people who take pride in the way they look and act, which is incredibly inspiring)

BUT anyway!..pointless rant aside..

If you ever feel down, take my advice and put on an old black & white, get on the sofa with a duvet and immerse yourself in greatness <3
Some of my favourite films from this period include Breakfast At Tiffanys, Some Like It Hot, Singin' In The Rain and Gone With The Wind.

What are your thoughts? Do you enjoy old classic movies too?

Your best asset is you!

"You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection" - Buddha

We've all gone through those days where you instantly wake up and feel like staying in bed all day, wallowing about how you look or how you wish you looked. I am a major victim of this. It's completely normal and the truth is, we are our worst critics.

Theres always something that gets to you, be it "I wish I was thinner", "I wish I had a different face" or "I'm hopeless, I wish I was good at something". And, a lot of the time, the solution to your problems is by getting up and doing something about it. If you are unhappy with your life, try to turn it around! if somebody says to you, "You are ugly" or "You'll never be good enough", to hell with them! You should never let anyone stop you from enjoying your life, because most of the time, the people that criticise you the most have problems of their own. I know it's easy for me to write this and act as if problems go away with a click of a mouse which I know they do not.

We are all different and the sooner everybody realises that, the better. But until that miraculous day happens where people have no prejudices and people of any colour, size, gender or class can be accepted, you must understand that you are amazing! (I write this with the intention to not sound completely cheesy or cliche which I hope has worked).

Your best asset is you.

Look at yourself in the mirror, focus on the things you like about yourself (and saying "I like nothing about myself" is not the answer) There is something, you just need to discover it! Listen to your favourite music, watch the films that make YOU happy, speak to the people you love the most and value the things in life that make you want to live it!

And quite obviously, this will not solve all of your problems, but I hope that by reading this, your self esteem may be bright even if it's for a short time.

So smile, because you are all beautiful!

Disney delights!

To say I like Disney would be an understatement. I LOVE Disney. I'm not even ashamed to say it! My two lovely friends recently visited Disneyland Paris for the day and decided to be very cheeky and buy me some presents....

Inside the bag I found a really amazing silicone cake mold in the shape of Minnie Mouse. I'm pretty into my baking so I'm very excited to use this, I'm thinking this would be perfect for a sandwich cake! (Also, the fact it's Disney just makes it 10x better in my opinion!)

(Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, my light-bulb decided to go just before I took them!) The mold itself is not large but it's a good medium size and I think it's a great idea for individual cakes! The fact it is silicone will also be interesting to use, my past experience with silicone cake molds have been good so hoping it turns out well!

To go with the theme of baking, the second present was a really lovely oven mitt! It's really well padded inside so it's very unlikely that an accident can occur with these on! I am ALWAYS burning my hands when taking things out of the oven, a complete clutz, so this is both practical and lovely to look at!

Really happy with my presents and cannot wait to use them both! I'll put up an image of how the cake turned out using the mold soon!

My top tips for revision!

It really is a lovely day today in Portsmouth (which makes a change) however I'm unfortunately busy revising for my exams in a few weeks! Anyone who's taken an assessment, be it for GCSE's, at A-level or, like me, at university level, you will understand how stressful and worrying it can be! Trying to cram EVERYTHING in without wanting to pull your hair out is definitely a difficult task to manage. We've all had that experience of that daunting feeling three weeks before your first exam when you suddenly panic and think; "Wow, I actually know nothing about this subject". It's very common and although it's not the most encouraging thought, it can be turned around with perseverance!

So, here are my five top tips for revision to hopefully help you on your way...

1).How to revise...
Ok, so there isn't actually a perfect way to revise, this is because we are all different! My best advice is do whats best for you, think about the best way you remember things. Do you learn best from 'mind maps'?
(If you don't know what mind maps are, I'm pretty sure another word for them is 'Spider-diagram'?)..Do you benefit from visual aids such as pictures? Or do you enjoy reading through notes and simplifying them? From experience and at the moment during my preparation for exams in May, I find I learn best with a variety of things. Reading a book and highlighting is not the way forward!

- Make a revision plan/timetable. This is key to being prepared!

- Make revision cards to test yourself
- Revise to music if it helps you. Although most research shows classical music is most efficient, choose the music you can relax to
- Test yourself with a friend or a family member. This helps me SO much, being able to recall things again makes sure that everything is staying in your brain!
- Take full advantage of revision guides, lessons and notes
- Incorporate colour into revision. Sounds odd BUT it acts as a good visual aid and sometimes triggers your memory in exams!
- Go over previous exam papers if you can

2).Where to revise...
This might sound like a silly thing to talk about but changing the location of your revision spot helps ALOT!
- Find a quiet and well lit place to study
- Avoid being near computers and television if you can, social networking sites are such a distraction!
- Have everything you will need for revision there before you start. The amount of times I've had to get up mid-way to find a highlighter is ridiculous!

3).Don't leave it till the last minute!..
I am such a victim of this. Many of my exam preparations in the past have consisted of me screaming and crying the week before my exams, trying to learn things from scratch. It's not efficient and certainly not good for your health! Leave enough time to get everything done and still have time to enjoy yourself on the odd day.

We all have to have a break!

4).Do not panic!..
Easy to say, hard not to do, I know. But if you prepare and keep calm you will feel so much better about your exams. They aren't pleasant things to do but there is always a way around them. Drink plenty of fluids, get enough sleep and avoid lots of caffeine!

You control the way you prepare for exams! Just keep positive!

5).Try your best!...
At the time it may seem like the end of the world if you do not get the grade you wanted or needed. I've had that problem as many do. But what you have to remember is that there is always another way to do things. If you have to retake an exam, retake it and be more prepared then the first time. From past experience, I remember taking an A-level exam for History, I got a D on my first attempt, retook the exam in the summer and got an A!

You can only try your best and nobody can then accuse you of not trying hard enough.

So there it is, quite a long winded blog but very necessary for anyone going through the same thing I am! I really hope this helps you in some sort of way (so sorry if it doesn't!!)

Good luck!
